, one of the world's most prominent standup racers was seriously hurt in last weekend's race in Austria.  Originally from Japan, now residing in Belgium, Yuki is a multi-world and national champion.

Yuki was racing in PRO-AM Ski Stock class when she was hit from behind by another jetski.  It was very obvious something was seriously wrong, so she was immediately taken to the local hospital.

Originally the doctors diagnosed her with 3 fractured vertebrae, but fortunately the spine nerve was fine.  This is mostly thanks to the back protector she was wearing at the time, and her physical strength.  Later, one more vertebrae was diagnosed as fractured.

This is what was left of Yuki back protector:

After spending a few days in the hospital Yuki was sent home, where she is slowly recovering. Upon her next visit to the hospital the total number of damaged vertebrae was increased to 5, and some additional damage to the internal organs was found.

Yuki is currently at home, trying to do daily upper body exercises to strengthen the muscles and speed up the recovery.

When we asked her how she was doing, Yuki said:
"I am trying upper body training and I am being helped by my husband, my friends and my doctor. I would like to tell everyone how important protection and training are.  The combination of my back protector, wet suit and my muscles saved me."

We will keep you posted on Yuk's recovery.
