Pro Watercross tour (previously US Nationals) has been an IJSBA event from day one.  That means it followed IJSBA rules, pilots had to have a valid IJSBA license, etc.

However, that is all about to change next year, when a new set of rules will be introduced. Pilots will no longer require an IJSBA license, and instead a new, Pro Watercross license will be enough.  This move is somewhat similar to a now defunct Alpe Adria Cup in Europe, which tried to be it’s own governing body, of sorts.

To further make things interesting, Pro Watercross will have its own “World Championship” race some time in 2015, and planned to return every year after.  If another competition on US soil with a “World” in its title will be a move forward for US sport remains to be seen.
